Where is Your Treasure?
by Justin Lukasavige

Matthew 6:21 says "Your heart will always be where your treasure is." Even if you're not a Christian, that is an interesting topic to think about. After all, common sense would tell us that what we spend our money on determines many things, including our personality, our habits, and generally what kind of a person we are. You really can tell a lot from someone by looking at their checkbook.

I don't want to categorize anyone, but most of us would agree that if we know someone giving 10% of their income to their church, charity or homeless shelter, they are genuinely a good person; or are at least trying to be.

We would also agree that the parents that spend money on nutritious food for their families, care about their health and well-being.

What about the person who invests money in helping other people? Buying groceries for a single mom or helping out with a car repair sure speaks volumes about that person.

But how about the person that has a lot of spending at BestBuy or the Gap, month after month? While not inherently bad, if this is you, you may want to take a closer look to see if you are indeed managing your money in your best interests.

As an interesting exercise, take out your checkbook or bank statement and take a quick look at where your money is going. It may surprise you what kind of person you really are.
